Chocolate Acorns

I’ve never been the best cook but the more fundraisers and philanthropy events I attended the more I had to learn to make treats. Once I got into college it was like a whole over playing field. My undergrad was in the south at Mississippi State were all the southern girls had ample dishes and baked goods to serve out. So, I needed a dessert guide for idiots; unfortunately, I couldn’t find one. After lots of failed attempts I’ve been able to get a collection of easy no hassle treats anyone could make.

Since it is November I have decided to share one of my easy go to desserts. This one is perfect for all the after school clubs, organizations, parties, and events one might attend in college. Chocolate Acorns was something I saw on a food network a while back. A contestant was utilizing them to top a cake. It was never fully explained how the treat was formed. Notably, after analyzing pictures of them for awhile I was able to make sense of the treat.

In its fully simplicity the Chocolate Acorns only require vanilla wafers, chocolate sauce, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and Hershey kisses.

  1. Lay ingredients out on a clean surface
  2. Unwrap the Hershey kisses
  3. Use the chocolate sauce as glue by attaching it to the unwrapped Hershey kisses
  4. Attach the vanilla wafers to the Hershey kisses; the chocolate sauce acts as glue
  5. Add chocolate sauce to the chocolate chips or peanut butter chips
  6.  Attach the chocolate chips and peanut butter chips too the top of the wafer; the chocolate sauce should act as glue
  7. Seal items in air tight contain or zip block bag
  8. Enjoy!!!

As a student studying zoological veterinary medicine I come across lots of marsupial animals. Last week I posted a bit about the Quokkas on Rottness Island. Australia, is filled with several types of marsupial animals. One of the most beloved are the Wallabies.

Wallabies like Quokkas and Kangaroos are apart of the macropod family. This means they are a marsupial animal that uses there hing legs and tail for balance and stability. There hind legs are often longer than there front and resort to hopping mobility.

Many people consider Wallabies to be “mini Kangaroos” and several consider them in the Kangaroo species. However, my professors disagree due to anatomical differences. Wallabies are visibly shorter. There body range is 40-112 cm from head to tail. Tail span ranges from 30- 80 cm. Likewise, there features are also “softer” since most wallabies are viewed as more delicate. They have longer eyelashes and more pointed noses. In addition they also have a higher metabolic rate due to expansion in the extensor ankle tendons. This enables high power kicks and impressive jump ranges.

Wallabies are like most there macropod family members and are sensitive. They like to be around positive and happy environments. Wallabies aren’t big on loud noises and don’t fare well in easily excited landscapes. They are native to the Australian terrain and outback. However due to there population numbers many are viewed as pest, much like there family members.

Since, I like to do rescue work I decided to list a few ways to help care for a Wallaby encase one is in need of care. There a few Wallaby rescues one can contact.  However, if one can’t reach a rescue this is a care protocol one should follow.

Health- Wallabies will need regular vaccinations. They are susceptible to many parasites and can become easily vitamin deficient. So, make sure to schedule biannual appointments with an exotic or zoological veterinarian to make sure health needs are necessary. If the vet requires additional appointments make sure to attend.

Diet– Wallabies can eat alfalfa and grass. This is the main staple of their diet. If trying to lure a Wallaby or entice them into eating more food add carrots and dandelion leaves to the feed. As far as treats go Wallabies love carrots, broccoli, and bananas. They should only be given once a week since they aren’t a natural diet for a macropod.

Note; When eating Wallabies often regurgitate there food. This isn’t a sign of illness it is just a way they break down the roughage in there diet. It helps the protein content be digested smoothly.

If caring for a Wallaby joey one should have Wombaroo Milk Replacer. This is a special milk powder formula all marsupial animals should have under 24 months. It should be feed in a bottle.

Housing– Wallabies are active animals that need space. If caring for one on your own make sure they have an outdoor space they can get at least four hours a day in. Likewise, there inside enclosure should be at least 6×6 feet. This ensures they can have proper room for mobility.

Since they are a marsupial animal you can take old bags and hang them in the room so they have a makeshift marsupial.  When inside the temperature needs to be above 50 degrees. They are partial to higher temperatures.

Note; Wallabies will often reveal symptoms of illness by liking there paws and coats. Normally, this would be a sign to take a marsupial animal to the vet, yet wallabies utilize it as a mechanism. This helps cool off there bodies from the preferred warmer temperatures.

A list below are a few wildlife sanctuaries and rescues that will care for wallabies. If you cannot care for a wallaby properly or have questions about an endangered wallaby or macropod feel free to contact these resources.

One of my classes required an observation of macropod marsupial animal. There are several through out Western Australia. Finding a marsupial animal to observe wouldn’t be hard. However I wanted to observe a macropod in its normal environment. Most of my classmates picked a type of wallaby or kangaroo. Since, I volunteer at a wildlife rescue I get to interact with the two species regularly so I wanted to branch out.

Notably, I thought of the quokkas which run among one of the islands in Perth. Quokkas are nick named the worlds happiest animals after several tourist posed with selfie with the critters on the island. The animals quickly adopted to being picture friendly and posing for the camera.

The cute small animals were friendly and happy. The cat size animal was adorable so I thought I would share my favorite photo I snapped of one of the cute little Quokkas.

On top of the Quokkas venturing into the island makes a great day trip to see eagles, rocket parrot, bobtail lizard, fur seals, and dolphins.

Additionally, cinema to relax and unwind from the days heat. Likewise, a spa and other beautification units.

November Shopping Haul

The Fremantle Market is one of my favorite places in Western Australia. There is an ecliptic assortment of food, thrifty finds, and trendy clothes. When my Dressage sponsorship rolls in monthly the 20% I keep for myself and don’t donate and put into the WA Wildlife Rescue I normal spend on wonderful products in the market.

For the month of November I normally go all out for Thanksgiving. Each year in America I always attend region 4 horse show. This dressage show falls under the weekend of Thanksgiving. So, the American holiday is a favorite. Since, it isn’t an international holiday and I don’t have a dressage show this year I decided to bring elements of thankfulness and friendship to Australia.

Since, it is mid spring in Western Australia I’ve tried to stray from fall products. However, since it is one of my favorite American holidays I still try to incorporate some elements of my home countries holiday.  So, I’ve been spotting finds in the Fremantle Market.

I’ve added fun products of November needs below.  Most are cheap and under $10 usd.

  1. IndieXo– My favorite November dress was IndieXo smell the roses red dress. I saw a similar print in the Fremantle market and loved that I could find a dress online similar to the loved rose print fabric I saw in one of the shops. An added bonus is with the end of season sale all summer dresses are currently on sale.
  2. Family Holiday Net- Burlap Wreath– For the month of November my dorm room entrance will have a burlap wreath. I’m against big floral wreaths so I like the innovative simplistic wreathes. I was happy to find one without any pine cones, plushies, flowers, words, glitter, or any other nick knacks. The burlap wreath is simple yet defining for fall. Burlap symbolizes unity and food which is everything Thanksgiving embodies. Its nice to symbolize and welcome others into my room that way. Additionally, I was able to find it online for $5.50 usd. Image result for thanksgiving wreath
  3. Lulus– Fluffy heels or feathered heels have been a statement that I have been obsessed with. I think they are girly and fun. They are great for a stroll around town or an upscale night out. The black ones go with just about anything too which made me fall in love with them even more so. I can wear them with a pair of lace up jeans, pencil skirt, or a dress. If utilizing the code “beautiful” on lulus then the product is only $10usd.                                        Valentina Black Feather Ankle Strap Heels 8
  4. Amazon Autumn Garland– A fall festive garland is a cheap and diy idea that is only needed with piping and leaves. Its an easy craft to string and put up over a doorway or table. Personally, I have placed the garland on the dorms central lounge table. For those that aren’t crafty, which is usually me, there is one that can be purchased on Amazon that is on sale for $7.99 usd this week. Factory Direct Craft Autumn Mix Artificial Maple Leaf Garland Fall Decoration
  5. Primark– Primark or Penney’s has several nice thanksgiving themed jewelry. One for November that I have been enjoying is the thankful necklaces. A series of chokers with fall themes. Several have words like thankful or friendship. The others are solid colors and lace. They come in a set of five and you came mix and match. A bonus is they are $3 euro. Notably, they were also featured in Glamour magazine.
  6. Fremantlestory– Fremantlestory has a booth at the market. They support local artist and musicians. One of the most recent support campaigns they have been promoting is different fashion pieces. At the market I saw a vibrant orange and red printed scarf and I tried to find a similar one online. However the stores I normally shop at didn’t have something with that energetic prints. Image result for fremantle scarves
  7. Atiliay Papers for a Cause– Greeting cards or I’m thinking of you cards are a wonderful way to celebrate the season. Its a reminder to the people you care about that you are grateful for everything they’ve done for you and for making an impact in your life. For the month of November I think it is vital to let all the people in your life be aware of what they mean to you. So I love Atiliay’s custom thanksgiving cards. They are for $5 usd for this season’s cards and cheaper for previous seasons. Related image
  8. Free People-Faux Pearl Headband- A big hair accessory this season was the faux pearl headbands. They add a sense of clarity and sophistication to any outfit. They are also versatile so it works with any up do. At Free People they have one for $9.99 usd with silver lining.                                                                                                              Thumbnail View 4: Sleek Pearl Headband
  9. The Lakeside Collection– Has crafted Thankful Jars or Count Your Blessings Jars. These are another fall diy I have in-placed is the I’m thankful jar. In the midst of finals I think it is important to give thanks for the little things. I once had a speaker at a school ask us to list 100 things we were thankful for in daily life. No one in that lecture could list a full 100. So, I challenge myself each year to write down the little things that make everyday magical. The thankful jar is simple. It is just a jar you put notes in. For those who want to purchase one instead of make one you can purchase one at  the Lakeside Collection for $5.98 usd.                     Image result for thanksgiving dorm signs
  10. Free People- Cross Body Purse– With slightly cooler weather it means more hikes in Kings Park for me. Particularly, I needed a bag that I didn’t have to carry with me on my shoulders or tote around. The cross body bag allows me to keep my ID, keys, and phone. The faux skin vegan print enables a more styled look. So, if I’m in denim it can add positive accents of a more put together look.                               Thumbnail View 3: Giselle Embossed Pocket Belt

7 November Dorm Needs

One thing about myself is, that once the school semester picks up full swing I always remember the things I told myself that I’d remember to bring the previous semesters. November was a perfect month for me to remind myself to bring the basic encouragements for the month prior to finals. So, my November shopping haul is vital for pushing myself through endless papers, labs, research, thesis, and digital projects.

November Dorm Haul List:

  1. White Barn Candles– I have recently enjoyed the sweet Bourbon and Butterscotch Candle. It is reminiscent of everything fall should be in America and has a homelike scent that is relaxing. I received a White Barn Candle earlier in the year as a gift for tutoring help and loved the Lavender scent. Sense, that candle has run its course I decided to get one from the same brand to replace it. White Barn/Bath and Body Works Accessories - Bourbon Butterscotch candle Bath & Body Works
  2. Redbubble– Stickers are an essential way to define yourself at university it gives passerby a preview of who you are. My laptop has been pretty bland lately as I had to get the casing on the back fixed after a nice drop. So after my klutzy incident I needed to define myself again. I found cheap stickers on redbubble. I got the typical cutesy flowers but was also able to find my university’s vet school sticker and the local wildlife shelter I volunteer at’s emblem.                  Image result for flower stickers redbubble
  3. H&M– Throw Pillows are another dorm accessory that is synopsis with comfort. Since my dorm room has a beach theme I wanted some nice pillows to match the theme. When I arrived in Perth months ago I was in a hurry to get my basic school supplies that I really didn’t decorate my room like I usually do. So, now mid year I’m venturing into getting throw pillows like a sophisticated adult. Notably, H&M has super cheap throw pillows that are on sale for about 3 aud or 2.75 usd.  Side note H&M also has fun animal printed pillows of giraffes and zebras. This is fun for me as I’m in school for zoological veterinary medicine. Image result for cool throw pillows H&M
  4. Hollar– Is a cheap site were you can essentially get formerly bargained products. Right now they have a coffee mug tree that is about 20 dollars cheaper than the super stores. For $4.75 you can have a coffee mug tree. When I was at Mississippi State I never had to worry about morning coffee and keeping my mugs on track in a clean and small environment. Every morning I’d simply walk down the hall to my sorority’s dining hall and get a cup to jump start my day. However, now I’m in charge on my morning coffee, so a coffee mug tree helps me keep all my dishes clean and organized. 024103 00
  5. Flower Wall Headboard- One of my hall mates across the way from my dorm has the cutest wall accessory. She hand strung flowers together and made strands suspended into a headband. Since I’m not as crafty or artsy as her I found a shop on etsy that strings paper flowers together. I got a white, green, and blue strands to hang above my desk.
  6. Bath & Body Works– A room diffuser. As the year progresses the fresh scents are needed for the dorm. One cute and inexpensive room diffuser is Bathandbodyworks closet diffuser. Its portable and can be placed anywhere in the dorm due to its small shape. They have several types but right now my favorite is the monkey. It is only $4 usd.                                                                           Room Diffuser
  7. PB Teen- Hooks are always needed in my rooms. From lab coats to horseback riding jackets I always need innovative ways to hang things up. Recently I came across hooks at the Fremantle Market and was obsessed. They were rod iron sea horses that had been painted white. Unfortunately,  they were already sold. It became my mission to find them. Notably, my pursuit was achieved! PB Teen has cheaper wire hooks in animal figures. The sea horses are a fun item to hang on the wall and perfect for my dorm theme.                                           Hook
