Easter Sunday Outfit

“And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.”  1 Cor. 6:14

While Easter is about the resurrection of Jesus and celebrating the arise of new life, first world culture still places significance on Easter appeal. Whether it be from the brunch too a Sunday service there is an unspoken dress code for an Easter outfit.

The first unspoken word is to wear a softer color. Particularly, a pastel color works wonders. The popular color of the spring season is yellow. However, I wore a light pastel pink dress. I also saw multiples of lavender and baby blues throughout the day.

In the same fashion, a spunky print is also recommend. Polka dots and stripes were common due to the 2018 trend. Yet, the season classic and staple is to wear a floral pattern. Simple floral patterns that are stunning are daisy and roses. Also stitched outlines of flowers add an elegant touch. In my dress I had embroidered flowers and butterflies adorning the dress.

Likewise, length actually matters. On Easters mini skirts and bodycon dresses should be avoided. A general guideline is to follow a business casual protocol, especially if you are going to be in attendance for a church service. A mid-thigh for skirts and dress length is a general standard for the holiday event. For those that are petite like me, an often struggle with this unspoken rule, can wear a shorter trim line skirt with mesh extending the length protocol. This is what I did with my dresses skirt line. The actual dress was shorter, yet the mesh was longer.

Notably, the last unspoken rule is shoes. While, I’m a fan of funky and edgy shoes that often make my outfit pop, I choose to follow the monday wardrobe capsule. A plain pair of heels that didn’t exceed 3 inches. I went with a pair of rounded nude heels. Similarly, white, grey, navy, or black heels would work as well.

Spring top

My outfit of the day was a more casual look then normal. When I’m not in scrubs or dressage apparel I try to wear chic outfits. However, I wanted to have a simpler look for taking my dog out to the park.

So, I sported my favorite brand and basic wardrobe staples. I opted for a cute flowy off the shoulder floral two way top from Billabong. The base of the top was black with soft white pink and yellow flowers printed among the top.

I then paired both with my favorite pair of jeans. A white lace up high rise denim jeans from Billabong. The jeans are a staple of mine due to the nice fit and stylish edge the lace provides.

Likewise I then matched the outfit with cute wedges I got from surf stitch. The black vegan pleather wedges provided height and a cute edge with the jeans. The little heel on the wedges helped elongate the outfit. To accessorize I wore a friendship bracelet from a sorority sister and a cute toe ring from the sawdust festival.

My outfit was laid back. Yet it still flowed nicely with the spring feelings, especially since Perth is in the “winter” season. Overall the outfit was ideal for a laidback warm weather look!

Spring & Summer Colors 2018

As the spring season approaches I thought I would add a list of popular colors. The colors shown on the list here are colors that I’ve noticed in retail and department stores thus far. I’ve also incorperated a few color trends that I’ve seen from runway previews by a few brands from NYFW 2018.

Pastels: The Easter Egg colors are making a big wave this spring. While pastel’s are normally loved this time of year becasue of there resemblence to the floral undertones. However this season pastel colors have been even more subdue tone. The lighter pastel hughes provide a softer spring look.

Hair Accessories

While I often write about staple wardrobe apparel items I often neglect the vital importance of accessories in influencing your seasonal choices. Due to spring being a time of joy and the reemergence of sunshine it is necessary to let the climate sway your style.

With all the floral, stripes, plaid, pastel, and bright patterns and colors floating around its nice to tie in a few minimal accessories. In the fall and winter I normally push flashier accessories like scarves, beanies, gloves, thicker necklaces, bold hair ties, and larger bags. Yet, this seasons trends tend to be softer in make so they call for a more subdue look.

Last week I wrote on hats for the summer and how the pair nicely with jumpsuits and rompers. So, I thought I would incorporate another lively option. As everything is now regrown and reaching full bloom, the flowers are in full swing. This scenic landscaping is easy to incorperate into your outfit.

In the past flower crowns have been a huge summer trend. But, that style has peaked in 2014, so a new floral accessories needed to become a primary contender. Luckily the hit product is flower clips. They come in all types from roses to lilies. Additionally, the clips are marketed in different fabrics from sequins to felt.

I’ve seen them all across Claire’s, H&M, and Gap. At each store they have been cost effecient. Personally, I purchase mine at H&M; where I get a three pack for a $2.00 usd. H&M  frequently has sales on their hair accessories in stores, so its often under the $2.00 usd.

To utilize your flower, you just simply find a clip that matches your outfit then fascinate it. Primarily these clips work well with being fixed inbetween to bobby pins. Likewise they serve the same function.

In the outfit below I pulled my hair back into two parts. I then clipped each side back with two bobby pins. Then I added two flower clips to my major part line then one to the minor side part. This created a floral arrangment that matched not only the flowers in my top, yet the ones growing outside.

pastel sweaters

While I’m in a warm state of Western Australia,  there are still places that are facing a spring like chill. With the colder weather in full force it can make it difficult to get into the summer time heat.
Recently, I’ve seen in stores bright and pastel colors to welcome in the warmer seasons. So, I figured a fun way to dress for the cold and still get into the spring/summer mood is by pastel sweaters.
Notably, the best item I’ve seen to capture the look is a pastel sweater. Not only are sweaters offered in several styles, but they come in multitudes of color. A cute baby blue, lavender, or princess pink can do wonders for ringing in the floral bloom. Best of all these sweaters can keep you warm while you add accessories.
To achieve this look simply, add pastel colored sweater to your outfit. Then  pair it with a neutral color. The contrast in colors can provided a soft and delicate look that supports soft-hue lighting.  This reflects a more muted look than the primary colors utilized in winter months.
When matching with pastel colors I normally “color block” with a beige, grey, burgundy, or brown. Warm weather seasons are months of fun for me, so I tend to add a print into the mix. Due to the colder weather I would spice up the look with warmer bottoms or shoes. For an example: leopard printed skirt, polka dot pants, floral leggings, or striped heels can add a great splash of excitement to any outfit. The mix print also contrast nicely with the outfit.

In the style set shown below I paired a pastel sweater with an animal print skirt. I then accessorize with pastel heels and hair clips. To neutralize or block I added a beige hand bag to do the trick.

Jumpsuits

By now everyone has seen their favorite Instagram influencers in trendy rompers, body suits, and jumpsuits. It’s the epitome of summer.
Jumpsuits are known for the easy fit and elongating features. However, it can still be tricky to find one that works for your body type. Especially when each former model has one styled in her likeness. Particularly the drop shoulder, loose waist, extra leg train, body con, plunge neckline, and halter off. These few are among the popular cuts.

Yet, these are designed for women over 5’8; which is 3 inches above the average height of ladies in America. So the practicality of these jumpsuits does no favors for the majority of us.

Notably, the perfect solution had been uncovered. The sleeveless, backless strappy, wise leg jumpsuit is the perfect match for all body types. By design it isn’t baggy and adds a good measure of length to any person. Plus the backless accent adds a trendy summer accent. The style is flattering and flirty.
To perfect the jumpsuit look out for a striped feature in the longitudinal direction. This furthers the slimming property of jumpsuits. It also makes for an adorable pattern that ties nicely with a beach boardwalk or Wednesday wine tastings.
As for color go for a chic low colors. Like, sky blue, pale orange, lemon yellow, or mauve purple. Then make sure the stripes are in white or navy. You’ll want to save brown, red, and black stripes for the fall.

Spring into Prints 2018

Every season has a seasonal trend or a defining print that one can’t go without seeing. This spring, 2018 is no different. All high brand stores are sporting posy dots, Georgian spots, gingham, and glenurquhart plaid.

Posy Dots are a popular floral design that stems from the posy flowers. The print offers an elegant prospect into the normal floral designs of roses and daisies. Instead of classically small prints the design has been shown as a floral sketch or expanded print. Posy themed pieces have been seen in Anthropologie and Topshop.

Georgian Spots are a wider dot pattern than polka dots. The pattern became popular in early 2010 with the rise of Pinterest.  The pattern comes from all the old southern brooches. The gems would be set with black circles below. Several artist recognized the old-fashioned placing and innovated it into a pattern. Georgian spots have appeared in Kate Spade‘s and Billabong‘s spring lines.

Gingham is a pattern that previously wasn’t appreciated. It was often associated with children clothing sets. Much of this is due to the 1950’s symbolic print, normally having a creme or white background with a checkered pastel color correlating with infant aesthetics. Now, the print has made a huge comeback. Ginghams lightly colored prints serve as a girly homage to Cannes fashion. All in all its a perfect summer print that can be found in Forever 21 and Pac Sun.

Glenurquhart Plaid or glen plaid, is a woven plaid. The pattern generally consists of a twill look. Four colors compromise the pattern. Two light colors and two dark colors will contrast in different repeating checks. This creates a trendy cross pattern. The glen plaid is often seen in blazers and skirts. It has become a fast growing instagram fashion for places with a colder spring weather. This print can be found at River Island.

Notably, my outfit of the day was inspired by the Georgian spots. I wore a romper from Billabong that I ordered off of Swell. The romper had the southern pattern printed on the mauve fabric. It also showcased cute flare sleeves and a trendy tie string at the top.
